Our Services

There are many life changes that may impact a person’s ability to drive safely. Avenues Driving Rehabilitation Program assists in providing guidance during these times, by offering a comprehensive driving evaluation. This process helps individuals explore all Avenues for remaining independent in navigating their community after an injury, illness or challenge related to the aging process.

Comprehensive Driving Evaluations Process

This assessment is completed by an Occupational Therapist who is specialized as a Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist.

Clinical testing evaluates vision, visual-perception, cognition, motor skills and reaction times which relate to driving performance.

Clinical testing is followed by a behind-the-wheel evaluation, which takes place in an Avenues Driving Rehabilitation vehicle. This begins in an empty parking lot and progresses to residential, commercial and highway driving if appropriate.

Following the evaluation, a meeting will take place to discuss test results, observations and recommendations with the patient and their family or support system.  A report will be sent to the referring physician as well as a letter to the patient, highlighting recommendations discussed at the time of their appointment.
